Get to know Sonia!
TCTP: Jonathan Larson also wrote RENT. What’s your go to RENT song to belt when you’re alone?
SG: Take Me or Leave Me! :) More than happy to sing both parts, but I particularly love Joanne’s part.
TCTP: The main conflict of the show is dealing with not accomplishing what you thought you would. Have you ever struggled with that?
SG: My last semester of university I was super ambitious and applied to 5 different graduate schools for MFA Acting right away – top-tier, super selective programs. I didn’t get in to any of them. I knew it was a long shot, but it still shook me and made me doubt my abilities. But I learned a lot from the experience, and it’s given me vital perspective on my profession, and lit a new fire under my ass!
TCTP: What’s your favorite lyric in the show?
SG: Love’s so still, can you feel it? – Basically just the whole vibe of the song Real Life. It’s so tender, careful, and contemplative while still having a lot of heavy and raw emotion.
TCTP: Susan doesn’t love being a dance teacher and John doesn’t love working at a diner, while Michael eventually gave up the arts for corporate America. What’s your relationship with your survival job?
SG: I love my job! I’m a Front of House Associate at Writers Theatre –AKA a house manager and a bartender. I’m grateful to be in such close proximity to AMAZING theatre and theatre artists. I've also VERY recently been hired as a full time Associate Researcher at LaSalle Network, a staffing and recruiting firm in downtown Chicago. (if you need work - look us up!)"
TCTP: John is ashamed of his Twinkie obsession. What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?
SG: PB & J sandwiches! I never fell out of love with them since they were packed in my lunches as a kid.
