Ryan Oates is beyond thrilled to be making his Chicago stage debut with the Cuckoo’s Theater Project! A major thanks to everyone involved in this process for being so spectacular at what you do! He would like to thank his family for loving and supporting him 100% in all aspects of his life. Tommy, thank you for unconditionally loving me and always challenging me to be better at everything I do. See you all on the other side!
Get to know Ryan!
TCTP: Jesse gets in trouble a lot at school. Were you a troublemaker as a kid?
RO: I was more of a jokester, but I never got in trouble for anything. I just helped stir the pot, then sit back and enjoy.
TCTP: This is a show where characters (and the actors themselves) break the fourth wall. How do you feel about breaking the fourth wall, when you're working on a show? How about as an audience member?
RO: The Office is my favorite TV show, so I’m all about it!
TCTP: What distracts you?
RO: Online shopping, my cats, social media, and music.
TCTP: In the play Mama has a big decision to make about Jesse’s future. what kind of decision maker are you? You do research? Make a pro-con list? Trust your gut? Something entirely different?
RO: Pro-Con lists don’t really work for me because I always end up making sure for every pro there is a con. I like to make informed decisions, so I try and do some research, and I prefer to think about the decision in an objective way before making my final decision.
TCTP: Jesse loves rap. His parents don't love that he loves rap. What kind of music did you listen to as a kid? Did your parents approve?
RO: When I was little I listened to whatever my older brother or parents listened to. If my parents had music playing it was usually Michael Jackson, Fleetwood Mac, or Pink Floyd. My brother listened to a lot of rap, particularly 50 Cent, Nappy Roots, and The Game. I’m sure my parents would have preferred us to listen to the Hanson cassette we had, but that didn’t happen.
Come see Ryan and the rest of the cast of DISTRACTED, running September 8 - October 7 at Prop Thtr.
