Get to know Melissa!
TCTP: Jesse gets in trouble a lot at school. Were you a troublemaker as a kid?
MG: Oh yeah, I somehow managed to be both a total dork and troublemaker. I was a weird conglomeration of Bart and Lisa Simpson
TCTP: This is a show where characters (and the actors themselves) break the fourth wall. How do you feel about breaking the fourth wall, when you're working on a show? How about as an audience member?
MG: I think it's an interesting choice if the writer can make it make sense, and in this case, I think it makes a lot of sense.
TCTP: What distracts you?
MG: Where to begin... oh look, a butterfly...
TCTP: In the play Mama has a big decision to make about Jesse’s future. what kind of decision maker are you? You do research? Make a pro-con list? Trust your gut? Something entirely different?
MG: I tend to go with my gut instincts, which only gets me in trouble maybe 50% of the time.
TCTP: Jesse loves rap. His parents don't love that he loves rap. What kind of music did you listen to as a kid?
MG: I listened to all kinds of music from your standard top 40 pop, classic and alternative rock, and definitely lots of hip hop. My dad never really cared, but my mom hated that I would listen to punk music, even pop punk! Like, who gets mad at their kid listening to My Chemical Romance? Brenda Flores, that's who.
Come see Melissa and the rest of the cast of DISTRACTED, running September 8 - October 7 at Prop Thtr.
