Meet the team of THE WATER CHILDREN - Carlye Pollack (Kit/Mom/Cat, Megan U/S)
Carlye Pollack has been in Chicago for about a year and a half after spending over a decade on the west coast. Since moving east, she has worked with The Waltzing Mechanics, GreatWorks Touring Company, Something Marvelous, and Cuckoo’s Theater Project. She looks forward to more Chicago adventures on and off the stage.
Get to know Carlye! :
TCTP: In the play, Megan learns about Japanese Mizuko shrines. What is one of your favorite myth/story/belief from another culture or religion?
CP: The story of Persephone, Queen of the Underworld. Her abduction by Hades leads to a compromise of spending half the year in the underworld with her husband and half the year at Olympus with her mother, Demeter. Two seasons of infertile land; fall and winter, and two seasons of growth and greenery; spring and summer.
TCTP: There are multiple times in The Water Children when Megan is at a loss with what to or where to go. Have you ever felt lost or adrift?
CP: Of course. Perhaps more than I’d care to admit...
TCTP: Every character in this play shares their opinion and gives advice, whether it's asked for or not. Do people often come to you for advice? Or are you the one who seeks advice?
CP: I think this is an equal offering. I am happy to offer advice when it’s sought and I turn to a select few for advice for myself.
TCTP: Forgiveness is a major theme of The Water Children. When is a time you had to forgive, whether it was another person or yourself?
CP: It’s a process. There has to be a bit of suffering before you are ready to forgive either yourself or another.
Come see Carlye and the rest of the cast of The Water Children, running June 10 - July 8 at The Vault at Collaboraction Studios in the Flat Iron Arts Building
