Meet the team of LANGUAGE OF ANGELS - Grace DeSant (Choreography)
Grace DeSant is a Southern Californian native, and Chicago-based performer and choreographer. Her choreography credits include Cuckoo’s co-production of THE BUTTCRACKER (Director/Choreographer), REEFER MADNESS (Pipe Dreams Studio Theatre), and THE LITTLE MERMAID (Beverly Arts Center). You can see her performing as the burlesque soloist Foxie la Fleur at the KISS KISS CABARET, and is excited to work on MOON, PRISM, POWER! A SAILOR MOON MUSICAL PARODY (Queen Beryl/Choreographer) with Otherworld Theatre in February.
Get to know Grace! :
TCTP: The characters that live after the incident spend a lot of time looking over their shoulders. What is one of your biggest fears?
GD: One of my biggest fears is war. Especially because of today’s current political climate.
TCTP: To deal with what happened that night, some characters turn to certain means of escape. What is your biggest vice?
GD: My biggest vice is sleep. It’s a magical, safe world of dreams and rest. A perfect escape from reality. But sometimes it gets the best of me and I oversleep – teehee!
TCTP: Tattoos/Body Alterations (best way we could say it with no spoilers) are are a recurring image in the play. Do you have any tattoos/piercings, etc?
GD: I currently only have single piercings in my earlobes. I definitely want to get my nose pierced, possibly a Marilyn Monroe upper lip piercing, and a whole lotta tattoos. I will slowly start working on these things this year! I was told for a LONG time by my acting instructors that “if you get piercings or tattoos, you will NEVER get cast in ANYTHING!” Which I’ve come to realize is a big, fat, fear-based lie.
TCTP: The incident started from a group of teenagers having a night of dumb, reckless, fun. What’s a dumb thing you did when you were young?
GD: Hmmm… a dumb thing I did when I was young. HAH, I actually thought about this recently… I grew up in a blue house, and one night my mom was leaving to drive one of my older sister’s friends home and I wanted to come. She said no, she’d be back in 10 minutes. I quickly went into undercover secret agent mode, ran to my room, put on my blue sweats and tried to blend in with the siding of the house and watched them leave. Then I ran after them and tried to catch up and follow them…. And I got lost. It was also late fall, so it was cold and was starting to get dark, and I didn’t have my jacket because I was trying to “blend in” with the house. I was a block away to my sister’s friend’s house when someone in the neighborhood stopped me because they were concerned. They called my mom and I got in a LOT of trouble! My imagination was and still is rather wild like that.
TCTP: The majority of the characters are coupled up at the beginning of the play. Who was your first young love? Bonus question: Are you still together?
GD: My first young love was a tall, dark, handsome guy named Matt. It was rather perfect – We were in our high school’s “Midsummer Night’s Dream” together, and he asked me to prom. He was a senior, and I was a freshman. Come prom night, everything was perfectly magical and we met up with all our friends (girls got ready together, boys picked us up and cooked and served us dinner at one of their houses). During prom, we were dancing to “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith and he asked me out. We only dated for a month HAHAHAHA. He broke up with me because his best friend didn’t like me. I was really, deeply heartbroken over it because I was blindly, innocently and deeply infatuated with him. He ended up marrying the next girl he dated and they still live in our hometown. Oh, young love…
